Ahhh, that's gonna be tricky - I tried to use my podule to transfer some cycle videos onto a different computer with internet access - apple in all their wisdom and glory have done their absolute very best to make this impossible.... you'd be better off looking at dedicated "hack my ipod" forums...

If apple manufactured a bike, it would go 50% faster than any other for the same effort, weigh half as much, cost twice as much, and only run on "apple certified roads" (about 4% of the uk roads)

<end rant>

So how do I go about copying my not insubstantial ipod library to another pc/itunes? not as straightforward as I initially thought....

Assuming you are running a Windows based PC you could try the following:

Connect the iPod to your PC.

Step 1) If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it.

Step 2) In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod

Step 3) In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders.

Step 4) Navigate to the Music folder. On my 2nd gen 'pod, the full path is:Portable Media DevicesMARKS IPOD (F: )iPod_ControlMusic

Step 5) Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive (WHICH MUST BE CALLED CAKES :biggrin:) no not really but whatever ;)

Hope that works.

That is Apple for you, you buy the produce and they own your soul, no one would accept that level of DRM from Micro$oft, should have gone open source...

A single Apple purchase, in the shape of an iPod, has proved successful in turning me off the idea of ever owning any more of their products. I spend a few minutes on itunes and yearn for the times that I used WMP and a Creative MP3 player.

If you want to do things Apple's way, then you might get on with their products. If you have your own ideas, though, you'll regret buying the iPod, however lovely it looks.

Best bet, IMO, is to ignore the iPod altogether. Find the files on your computer and copy them from there.

Norm - i tried that when i got my podule - but windows only sees the ipod as a photo device - i.e. i can only find the eight photos on the ipod that have been uploaded on to facebook - i think i have hidden folders switched on already tho...

I use a phone and mp3 files. Have encouraged the kids (ipod owners) to buy music from amazon rather than iTunes after they had major probs trying to get music off old ipod onto new. They're starting to see my point. :thumbsup:

What's your opinion of the nexus one pal? I have the HTC hero and think its great just 2ish more developers would switch over from the Apple app store. BTW have you installed an app called cardio trainer? Great app for recording cycle rides with statistics :rolleyes:

Back on topic I find aphpod for Windows a good app for syncing from ipod to itunes plus its freeware. There are worse companies to Apple to be honest and some of there products do turn heads!
