Of course the rest of the world have different fuels, different levels of tune for their own market, different driving conditions (it's low speed stop start puts the highest intertial acceleration/deceleration on the belt, not high speed) different climate with different average temperatures and humidity, different levels of salt on the road and chemicals in the environment...they didn't pull it from betwixt their buttocks for a laugh or to screw the British over for winning the war. It wouldn't seem such a clever idea if the belt did then fail and they tell you to do one.

You want to gamble it, thats absolutely fine. But at least acknowledge that it is a gamble, no matter how well stacked the odds may be, rather than some smugly clever money saving scheme with no downside. Youre simply taking a risk in the name of being tight, and that isn't the same as being financially prudent.

A slight side step.

A few years ago I was in a Suzuki dealership, looking at a Jimny.

In the sales area there was an elderly man shouting and raising his voice to one of the salesmen.

Apparently he didn't like the blue light on the dashboard of his brand new car when using main beam and he wanted the service department to disconnect it. People like this are driving on our roads.
