Is a Triban 5 worth it over a 3

I was going for a 3 but they (Decathlon) didnt have a 23" only a 21" (which a bit small, not that bad though....the 22" had a bit better reach for me), the guy then pointed me to the 5 in black, and said it had slightly better gears ect, but for some reason, the 3 had carbon forks, the newer 3 doesnt. The older 5's carbon forks and back, the newer one doesnt, only the forks ....anyway

I'm now thinking of going for the 5 over the 3 (£130 diffirence, I know it's not much but I was budgeting at 300)...or it a better a bike than a 3, or it just the gearing

I'd want the better gears and carbon fork personally...shame it's black

I think it is worth the extra. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of carbon seat stays, it isn't very common in aluminium bikes. My Giant doesn't have them and it's still comfortable.

I like black...as said above though, I was originaly going for a red 3

I'm not bothered about them either, but I'd like the carbon forks, so will need to be an older 3 (but they're not getting anymore in with the carbon froks) or an up to date 5

I'd like it but not bothered if I dont, as it's a red 3 I was aiming at....I've saw one in the Warrington shop but dont know if they'll bring it to the Glasgow one, if not then I'd probably just go for the 5, just I didnt intend spending an extra 130 and still really dont, truth be told. I'll phone Warrington or Glasgow tomorrow and see what they say

I'm now thinking about putting rd tyres and maybe whatever wheels would fit on the Hopper frame with discs, or change from them to rim brakes, and fit a solid fork and save some cash....see what happens. I'm just p*ssing myself off with all the buggering about, going here n there, looking at this n that and really not knowing what the hell to do......I'll end up doing nothing and just use what I've got because of indecisiveness and anger

You really don't like black bikes, do you?

Personally I'd never buy a bike with carbon seat/chain stays, it's a lot of money when it goes wrong.

Nope ^_^ I have just added red hoods to my Pearson, just so it's a little less black

Get the 5 man!
Stop messin about and worrying about £130. Tis only money

I'm seriouly thinking of just putting rd tyres on the RH, and to hell with a rd bike, cause after seeing the way some cyclists with proper rd bikes got treated with cars, I don't think it's worth it. I think if I go on mine, I'll put on the rack an drive somewhere quiet...bugger cycling on the rds

Certainly wise if you are not sure about cycling, go for a tyre with light tread to enable roads and slightly rougher stuff. Or get into MTB'ing and hit the woods

I'm not into it either, I just got it because I was looking for a bike and like the colour and style, if I'm being bloody honest, it'll never be off rd as long as I've got it truth be told....well I certainly dont intend to be.

Dont get me wrong. I'd like to try a modern proper rd bike but feel if I got one, I just wouldnt use it, the same way that I dont realy use the mtb I've got. I honestly dont know what to do, I might end up doing nowt

Find another sport/pasttime perhaps? You don't seem especially keen...or is cycling a necessity for commuting?

Specialized concept shops offer weekend test rides (dunno how they work) and you can also hire roadbikes in some cities (e.g. London)
