You don't seem especially keen...or is cycling a necessity for commuting?

I'm not, if truth be told.......neither, just something I thought I'd try again

Dont get wrong, if they (Decathlon) had had the red 3 in stock in a 21-2" I'd have probably took it, but as it's discontinued, that's it....I just felt he was pushing me to the 5, it's a good bike too, but an extra 130 quid which I just didnt budget for.

I phoned Sheffield which showed they had one (red 3) when I looked on their site last night, but he said they didnt....and if they did, they wouldnt move them from store to store, it's up to me to pick it up, oh well

Sounds like you'd need to budget for new wheels on the 3 sooner or later from what folks are saying - not sure how they are on the 5?

I'd stick with the MTB, put less knobbly tyres on it and see how you go for now? Another option is a fast flatbar bike like a Sirrus, easy to pick up used

That doesnt look much diffirent at all to the RH, just that it's got fixed forks and a straight lower frame tube....I could fit a fixed fork on mine and it'd be the same

I know the gearing on a rd bike's diffirent to mtb's but is it that much

Yes and those will make it quicker and the lack of suspension forks, lighter  It's basically the same frame as the Specialized Secteur, a roadbike with more relaxed geometry

I've got the 5 and i would say its the worth the extra, my rear hub has just went so i'm guessing it suffers the same problems as the 3 does, apart from that im really chuffed with it and alot faster on it than my old hybrid

They go wrong often do they?

Honestly, I can't say I have experience with them so don't really know.

But I'd rather have a full AL or full Steel frame because I think they last longer and can take harsher punishment.

I also think the CF stays look damn ugly... but that's another matter
