Heres another good one, i was mocked for wearing a club shirt on saturday ( by a stranger). Irony was, he was wearing an arsenal shirt. A shirt for a team that he is not a member, does not participate with, cannot contribute to and will never be part of.

Very easy to ignore those posers. Plonker paid mega bucks for a shirt and is actually advertising (whoever the sponsor is - I don't know) for free. Moron

I like this response, its along the same lines as my own opinion, so tell me...what would you say if someone told you that cycling was a pastime taken up by those who aren't very good at sport?

Truthfully - not a lot. The claim makes as much sense as a racist saying 'this country's gone wrong because of all the bloody foreigners'. It's clearly nonsense, but you get the impression that arguing the point would only fall on deaf ears!

I play football with the guys at work, I don't understand the rules (baring a few exceptions), requires little or no skill to kick a ball and can be undertaken by even the least physically fit or mentally gifted, but some people consider this to be a sport.

The intent determines if its a sport, the kid cycling in the park is doing so for fun, the guy cycling to the allotment may do so because its convienient or he wants to lose weight. A cyclist involved with the sporting side of cycling undertakes structured training for the goal of becoming faster, stronger and a better cyclist.

It does require skill if you want to have any degree of control over where the ball goes when you kick it.

Kicking a ball required no more skill than I would associate with cycling, you have to be able to balance and ride the bike, yet if you want the level of control over where the bike goes such as exhibited by Danny MacAskil you require further skill. However I equally do not personally believe the skill level determines if something is a sport or not.
As previously stated I believe the intent behind the reason why you are undertaking the activity determines if this is a sport or not, does the activity have structured training for the sole purpose of getting better at the activity, is there a competitive side and defined structure to the activity.

My thoughts are the same as CopperCyclist but he explains himself better than I do

I'm sure I've missed a few, but anyone who says top level cycling doesn't require skill is wrong.

The top level of everything requires immense skill.

But pretty much anyone can pick up a ball, ride a bike, swim in a pool...etc.

Hence my op really.
