Thinking of skiving for an afternoon and hooking up with a mate who wants to test his new 29er out. We've done Llandegla a couple of times recently and Gisburn is about the same distance. Is it worth a crack?

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Yeah it's good fun. A lot less manicured than Deggers mind.

Mixed bag I reckon. There are bits that are home made and narrow, bits that are technical and rocky, bits that are techy and hard work, the climb up through the quarry, but huge sense of satisfaction from riding it. There are bits that are droppy, swoopy and jumpy, Hope Line, and there are bits that are very very rocky and kinda hard work if you ain't used to them, the bit up to the top. There is also the famed Hully Gully, which is a full-on adrenaline fest but needs care and confidence to get the best out of it., but you can ride back up and session it if you fancy. Opinion is divided between "I don't like it, it doesn't flow" and "it's great, if you can't find flow you ain't doing it right. " go and give it a go. It certainly won't be time wasted necessarily, but remember it isn't everybody's cup of tea.

I reckon @I like Skol would be in the "great fun" camp. The top pavement over the marsh and the big rock at the top is his kind of environment.

Narrower and rockier than elements of the Marin?

That'd be your ideal steed on the velodrome never mind Gizburn.
I thought a nice Stumpy would be a good bet.......

I like Skol

A Minging Manc...

Didn't we do this during the summer Dan? The kids loved it and ate up Hully Gully (I remember now, the youngest skol had spat out a brake pad so he did the Gulley with just a front brake ) The kids kept asking me to do that rocky drop but I didn't fancy it on the day as there must have been about 50 blokes milling around on the grass watching and it was very off-putting.

I think, looking at the Yowtoobe clips, it looks great! I'll be heading on up there in the spring, long drive from the midlands but looks good to me.
