Is Hebden Bridge quite the ... (includes Happy Valley spoiler...)

Seem to recall Shed your tears got very mixed reviews from then current Hebdenite's.

I found if funny last year when a "London" journo did a piece on Hebden, a place I've not been to since the mid 90's btw and only then to go mtb'ing with some manc mates off CompuServe, and all and sundry waded in decry his southern view point, only for him to point out he was born and bred, and lived in Todmorden!

I had just said that I bet they made another series and then they announced that.

It was a bad advert for the communities in the valley, but I thought it showed off the local scenery very well.

What I found totally disorientating was how they would show a police car driving down a hilltop lane near Keighley, then pass some shops in Todmorden about 17 miles away, then pull up outside the police station in Sowerby Bridge, another 10 miles in the opposite direction!

I was playing 'spot the landmark'. In some shots, I could actually identify stretches of dry stone wall or road markings from my walks and bike rides over the local hills.

It's an old game - we used to play it with Inspector Morse. Somewhere towards the end of the run they began to get wise and sort out their routes.

I think it was one of the best things the BBC has done in ages and am looking forward to the next series. As is TLH who only came in from episode four onwards.

but then I thought Broadchurch was tourism advert making a lame attempt at Scandi-noir with neither the scandi nor the noir.

Neither were a patch in Y Gwyll (Hinterland)

As as to the realism or lack of it.... it's fiction!

Absolutely agree.

+1 to that. The Welsh language wasn't an issue and all the episodes were great.

Absolutely disagree. Thought it was the best thing I've seen on telly since I don't know when. Broadchurch was good, but Happy Valley was in a class of its own.
