Advertising. They have an unusual business model which attracts a certain type of customer. Other businesses will advertise their share price or dividend which amounts to the same thing.My brother works for John Lewis, his (and every other partner's) bonus (% of salary) gets reported in the press...can't see why it's anyone else's business, not like he works in the public sector or indeed a PLC. Not aware of it happening with any other private business?
A democratic system however, everyone gets the same % although of course the actual amount varies

Well since you ask, he has two - one for the summer and one for the winter. The summer residence is handy for the fly-fishing in Scotland and the winter one is next to the Chernobyl power plant, which keeps him warm.

I did though have an interesting episode about 2 years back when a team mate was promoted to team lead and became my boss. He was pissed when he found out I was and continue to earn more than he does. He became a right pain in the arse and as soon as I could move teams I did.
