Is it legal to drive while wearing a niqab?

I was nearly taken out the other day at a junction by a woman (I assume) in full niqab. All I could see of her was her eyes (but she drove me wild with passion, the dirty whore, she should be lashed). It occured to me that a) anyone could be driving that car, and you'd never have a positive identification if something happened Is this legal? I know tinted windows aren't.

Usually the owner of the vehicle in a crash has to name the driver don't they, then conscent to drive it or TWOC comes into it. It's mostly named drivers.

Tinted windows are illegal because they affect your ability to see out, not because there is any requirement for anyone to see in.

That said, I don’t believe you should not drive any vehicle on the road (Bicycles inc) whilst wearing anything that restricts your full vision, peripheral included.

I see hooded tops in cars, wrap around fleeces on bikes (like a big tube's around your face), snorkel parka's on scooters and full face helmets on bicycles.

All of them have a detrimental effect on peripheral vision and I don’t see how a niqab is any different.

ABSTRACT

Visual field testing of subjects wearing a niqab was carried out using the approved (Esterman) test on a Humphrey perimeter to determine if visually normal subjects met the European driving standard. Measurement of aperture dimensions of the niqab when worn was recorded. When wearing the niqab, all subjects achieved a visual field adequate to satisfy UK/European driving standards. A measurement of the limiting aperture size was obtained and a self-test method for niqab wearers was determined. (my italics)
