..for one person to have 40 pairs of socks?

Seeing as it's wet outside and I have lots of tidying up to do I thought I'd count them as I put them away, no idea how I've ended up with quite so many but there you go.

It is dependent on the additional number of unpaired, single socks you have. If the ratio of single to paired socks is less than 5% then you have a normal distribution within acceptable limits.

Our son takes no notice of whether 2 socks match when he puts socks on, so it doesn't affect his mental state to think to sort socks... which strangely freaks Mrs A_T out completely... you can see smoke emerging as she tries to get her head around the concept.

A lot of mine are from Aldi and are labelled L or R, being a bit OCD I must make sure they not only match but are on the correct foot

Agree with the re-using of the old ones for chain cleaning though, even have one for putting my flask in to help it fit better into the bottle cage for winter joy rides with coffee.

My waterproof jacket packs down nicely into an old sock so it fits in my jersey pocket.

My 'sock drawer' has all of my socks folded neatly in stacks of colour shades. Brights, browns, greys, blacks, blues, miscellaneous
