yeah, don't do that. The mystical protection/science protection won't work if the integrity of straps is compromised. Dishwashers aren't designed to respect fabrics.

Put it in a bucket with a couple of tabs of Ariel Bio, stick a brick on top of it to keep it submerged for a day, and rinse it under a cold shower.
Fragrance will return.

Yeah it's fine to put it in there. It's a bit of a strange place to store it and I don't think I'd want last night's spag bol getting all over it.

A cupboard may be a better option.
