I attempted LEJOG this year and made it to 82% (based on miles cycled versus how many I was supposed to do) before having to quit due to poor health - got a cold just before the Lake District that turned into something nastier around Loch Lomond.

Many people since have asked me if I would go back and do it again and my initial answer has been no, but in the back of my mind I haven’t ruled it out completely. However I can’t see trying the whole thing again until after I’m retired (at least 10-15 years for that) because getting that much time off work is a hassle.

Now would I do just the Scottish section that I did not complete so I could say I’d done the whole country, even if not in one go? Yes, that is much more tempting. It won’t be next year, but maybe in the next 3-4.

A friend did an off road version just under 20 years ago. Eight hundred and odd miles.
Forunately navigation has gotten a lot easier since then.

I suppose one difference between LEJoG & Childbirth is you don't end up paying maintenance for 18 years as a result....probably

A couple of friends walked LeJog a few years back. It was to celebrate his 60th. I think it took them a little over 80 days. They didn't take a day off as they reasoned that they'd just be walking around looking at stuff anyway, so they built in several very low mileage days.
I did Ireland end to end on foot for my 40th and coast to coast ( Galway to Dublin ) for my 50th. Got a few years to decide what to do for my 80th, but it will probably be on my bike instead of on foot🚴
