No serious damage to me but the gobike; hire e-bike broadly equivalent to a Boris Bike, that I was riding is now a mess.

I'm approaching a set of lights to turn right (equiv of a left turn in UK). Cobbled street wet surface. I have green light, from my left sailing through the red light on his long john comes a helmet wearing headphone totting local. In a world of his own.

I hit the brakes to avoid a collision but... Dammit I'm on a forenz bike and the front wheel locks up, the levers being reversed from the norm in the UK, front wheel washes out on the wet cobbles, and down I start to go, and slide into him anyway. A Long John can do a lot of damage to the front of an ordinary bike it seems!

We both live to ride another day but I'm going to have a sore knee, hip, shoulder and elbow for the next few days.

Sorry to read of your misfortune, at least you are here to tell the tale and your injuries are fairly minor. Headphone wearing cyclists, pedestrians and vehicle operators are a menace, too busy concentrating on their music instead of paying attention to the roads.

Im surprised you are surprised.

The police do morning RLJ checks on a regular basis in CPH. They often get a couple of hundred on a mornings swoop.

You must have seen it on the news or in the newspapers. The police like to advertise it.

I see it everyday, albeit, and this surprises me, in much lower numbers than it happens in London.

Not seen plod doing owt about it, though I have been threatened with a fine for jaywalking!

I once tried wearing headphones while skiing and the result was that I skied so recklessly that I reckoned I would kill myself or another skier within a day. Never done it since.

I know that there is a forum discussing the safety aspect of wearing headphones while cycling, but I don't get the very idea of listening to music while doing some sporting activity. I want to be 'in the moment' and savouring the ride, the scenery etc. If I were listening to music then that's what I would be paying attention to - the cycling, skiing (whatever) would just be something going on in the background.

Be thankful he didn't run the red light in a car....
I am. Yet I am regretful that he ran a red light on a loaded Bullitt like this. Packs quite a punch once it is rolling...

Cadence. Uplifting 'vibes'. I don't run races wearing 'phones but they are very helpful before races, to psych me up, and whilst out on tedious long slow runs. I don't wear them every time, as, like you, sometimes I want to be in the moment, but sometimes a training run is just a chore you have to get through devoid of all moments...
