Hmmmm, so how does Chris Hoy manage to do such a good impression of a nice guy and still win races?ComedyPilot said:I voted no.
Certainly he has an air about him some find hard to stomach, but so does Lance, Tom, Robbie, Cadel etc.
They are all about one thing, winning bike races, being fluffy-cuddly is not a selling point for a sinewed bike racer, leave that to Fern Britton.

Speaking of Robbie McEwen, he seemed to win without much help. As I recall he used to be a genius for hopping wheels and popping out through ludicrous gaps, whereas Cav relies on a complete monster of a train. Shame that Robbie is pretty much at the end of his career, in his heyday I reckon he'd have given Cav more than a few nasty surprises.
More oak than marble I'd say. Marble isn't doesn't look organic enough.ComedyPilot said:I've never met him, but he does on the surface seem to be quite nice. Fluffy is not a suitable adjective for his marble-like physique.
But that's the whole point. McEwan had to engineer the situation for himself, which makes his wins more a triumph for one individual than those of a well drilled team. I don't have a problem with Columbia's tactics, they're pretty much textbook, but winning the way Robbie did carries that little bit more elan.McEwan used everyone else to get him to the line, Cav's (and Columbia's) tactic seems to be use the team and make certain.
No? No.ComedyPilot said:It will be interesting to see if the CHR team change tactics if Rogers gets a sniff at GC. Cav may have to go it alone McEwan-esque, no?
Chuffy said:No? No.
I doubt it. They've spent too much time building the team around him. I can't see them sacrificing near dead-cert stage wins (and a likely green jersey) for an outside sniff at the GC. Although it would be hilarious to watch if they did. How far do you think he'd spit his dummy?![]()
He's from up north. I doubt he knows where Devon is.ComedyPilot said:Do you have adequate air-raid protection in the south west?
yello said:Agreed, absolutely. Not that Cav doesn't deliver the goods, he does, but the Columbia lads get him to the place from where he performs best. It was one of my reservations about him being able to take green this year, simply because he only gets points when it all goes to plan.
When Super Mario was at his best, his team, Saeco, did the same as Columbia, they got Chippolini to the right place at the right time. Quick step did the same for Tom Boonen. But will agree it was good to see Robbie elbowing, head buttiing and wrestling his way through the bunch to win stages.
