It's a warning, i.e. something *might* happen. I check the met office website several times a day and as far as I can tell, they got it spot on around here. Warning! There might be snow! Be prepared! Guess what? We did have snow and because of the announcement, the roads were properly gritted and cleared and my life was able to continue as normal, albeit with several extra layers. Now the Met Office is saying there'll be icy conditions and the gritters are out in force again. Am failing to see the problem.

Anyone see the documentary today about the mega snow of 1963? Makes this light dusting we've had a bit of a joke, ad anyone who car cope with it a bit of a saddo.

My Mum keeps an eye on the weather in New York. She reckons that whatever they've got, we'll get in two weeks.

It's caused much amusement over the years, but TBH, she's often right!

Slightly OT...

There is a hill behind the Hospital at work...... and on top is a fort. (We must be the only NHS Trust with a tank at the entrance and a fleet of armoured vehicles)

At one point there was a team tweeting that it was snowing, and another saying that it wasn't!

Do we need "warnings" of normal weather? Besides it gives public transport operators a ready excuse when they have been failing to provide a normal service for whatever reason, staffing , lack of maintenance, breakdown etc. etc.

It's not normal weather for much of the UK though. Wasn't freezing last week, probably won't be by the time we get to the end of the coming week. (It will be now, just to spite me.)

As for your point about public transport operators: to my mind the blame for their failures should lie with them and not the Met Office????

Those of us wise enough to settle in the civilised lands of the South really don't expect to be blighted by Northern weather

What is the world coming to?

A few hours of light snow in Peterborough yesterday and the roads were chaos, even the main ones. They were fine though this morning (Saturday) for a slow 41miler on the 23mm shod SS. Tomorrows (Sunday) a similar forecast to Friday's dry at first but snow later; I've went out in worse up north but given Friday's chaos I might give tomorrows club run a miss

Portsdown Hill always gets the snow first... I remember driving over it the last time we had heavy snow...was like a rally stage!

It is quite normal to have snowfall or freezing weather during Winter. I don't need the Met Iffice to tell me that. The car was checked and serviced before Winter hit, and was swapped into its winter tyres so it was ready. I keep a folding shovel, blankets and non perishable food in the boot. I keep the freezer well stocked at home. I had my heating serviced way ahead of time.

These are things anyone with a braincell will automatically do well ahead of time. Anyone dumb enough not to be prepared is unlikely to heed a Met warning, or is unlikely to have time to make all these preparations if they wait until a warning is issued.
