The short term forecast I heard on Radio 4 today was for one more band of rain followed by dry weather. I guess that means it's going to be cold but probably less windy.

We have had fairly dry winters lately so I guess we are probably overdue a soaking wet one this year. Still get a hosepipe ban after a fortnight of dry weather come the summer though I bet.

Your guess is as good as mine. Weather forecasting is a tricky thing at the best of times and long range forecasts are often no better than an educated guess. This thread on The Weather Outlook gives quite a good insight into how difficult it all is.
A good rule of thumb though is to expect the opposite of whatever the Daily Express says.
