The concours boys use boot polish on motorbike tyres. If you haven't got any boot polish then bryl creem will give it a healthy shine.

PS, you can't get the shine back. Muck off is good also to remove the crap from rim braked bikes on the tyre. Works well. Glad I've given up on 'coloured' tyres - black, or black.
