If you have all your circuits off and the rcd won’t reset - could it be a dodgy rcd?

If you can’t get hold of a local electrician, what about British Gas, Homecall service which specialises in repairs, maintenance and fault finding. They are likely to have spares in the van too.

Sounds like the RCD has failed. 10 minutes with a MEGGER should confirm or otherwise.

Amazingly the emergency sparks, who said he'd be here in half an hour, came in half an hour. He then spent a bit over an hour going thru' the whole isolation thing. Somewhere on that wall. With two lots of sockets and the central heating. Tried to get the CH going on a workaround. Flipped the switch. So that's it. The boiler. Everything else is now on. Need a boilerman. We came to settle up, on the previously agreed terms: £60 callout charge, + £60/hr. "Call it £60" he said.
