Hi all, My hubby is looking to replace his bike and we are wondering is there any good bike shops in Norwich? I purchased my bike from Halfords but i had to as I was doing the bike to work scheme. This time we could use any shop. Also he is unsure which bike to get so any suggestion would be great. We have around £500-£600 to spend and he was thing of a flat bar cyclocross or a road bike.

I've only bought odds and sods there though (tubes, quick release for seat, etc). A friend I think got her bike there and seems happy with it.

I don't like Pedal Revolution Ltd‎ (near YMCA in town). A bolt fell out of my clip in pedals, so I couldn't take my foot out. I went there, hoping they'd be able to help get it off. They did, but the guy was a right grump. The same thing happened a while before, and I went to a Halford's bike shop and the guy there was fantastic ;)...so I would avoid them :troll:

As for bike...how about a Specialised Allez. They're £500 and I've been very pleased with mine! A mate got a new one the other day and it's looovvveellly looking!

I like this shop

http://www.cyclesuk.com/help/shops# then click on 'Norwich'!

Just down from Jarrolds!
I dont - they don't know anything and scoffed at my questions when I last went in there. They also claim to "support" the Norwich 50/100 - complete rubbish and they couldn't help anybody with problems at the halfway point last year....overpriced innertubes seemed to be the order of the day.

Pedal Revolution are ok if you know them, Street Life are good too.
However, my favourite and the most helpful is Madgetts in Diss.

That's a shame, as I found them friendly and helpful, even though I didn't buy anything, but they were happy to talk and enthuse about bikes with me!

Must be you, Will! ;)

Hi guyz thanks for your help, we have looked in Pilch aka cycleuk but Andy didn't seem to like any of them. I should have known about streetlife as my work sponsors the extreme sports therapy team

Hi,

CyclesUK downstairs at Pilches/Jarrolds is OK. Some of the staff know their stuff, some are a bit 'Saturday'.

Actually, the Halfords just round the corner on Castle St are quite good (the old Bikehut store) - the staff are better than the average Halfords lot.

Pedal Revolution are good with a lot of kit - one of the best places to get new bikes I think. Streetwise have a good rep, but I found one of the guys in there a bit snobbish.

If you want Specialized kit, then John Borwell on Spencer Street is a nice little shop.

Finally, the best shop in Norwich by far is Specialised (with an S) on Connaught Road. However, it's mainly spares and repairs in there - the bikes they do sell are Bromptons and other folders and some high end kit. But definitely worth a look to see if they do have anything in.

Good bit outside Norwich but...

Up Hunstanton way - fatbirds.co.uk

Great shop and very friendly staff.

Will give you a test ride, a proper fitting, a free six week service...

Overall very pleased and would thoroughly recommend them

I would agree with this; Pedal Revolution is the sort of place to go for off-the-peg bikes and they seem pretty knowledgeable but mainly interested in sales rather than after-sales. They have a few second hand bikes and a lot of decent hybrids/road bikes in the right price range (plus the usual free service within a year IIRC).

I've used Specialised Cycles for almost 7 years and they've never let me down. As you point out it's a small shop with mainly folding bikes and custom builds on display (they used to sell full sized off-the-peg bikes, but that was winding down when I bought my Dawes there in 2003). But in the past if they haven't been able to supply something, they have been able to advise where to go.

I've only heard good things about Madgetts, but Diss is a bit far away...

Fat Birds Don't Fly is even more remote than Diss, but I got a frame from them a few years ago and they were very friendly etc. Had a massive stock of Airborne (Van Nicholas) but I'm not sure what they have in the £500 range - probably fairly decent.

Hope you find a bike you like!

Specialised cycles is by far the best cycle shop in Norwich - without question.

Street life is a bit of a joke really. I sent my mate in there to get a couple of spokes so that I could fix his wheel and they found a couple, when he asked how much they said "er, £5 should do it" Five quid for a couple of plain gauge spokes! Should have been a £1 at most.

Pedal Rev are also a joke considering the size of the shop.

As for that place in Jarrods, well, I asked them a few questions which i pretty much knew the answer to anyway and they fed me a right load of shite!

I appreciate that the above is a really old thread/post that I'd resurrecting and so apologies for that.

However I'd done a search for good bike shops in Norwich because I needed somewhere to go for some repairs / servicing on my bike.

Two of the posts above said that Specialised Cycles in Norwich was the best place to go but when I got there I found it had closed down.

However there was a sign on the door about AP Cycles which is close by on Stafford Street. Therefore I took my bike there and I was really happy with the service at A.P Cycles.

As far as I'm aware A.P Cycles don't sell bikes (apart from maybe a few secondhand bikes but I'm not completely sure) but just in case anyone on here searches for any recommendations on places to try for servicing / maintenance / repairs etc. in the Norwich area I thought I'd share this just in case it's a useful tip for anyone else.

Speaking to the guy who runs it, Andy, he was the mechanic at Specialised Cycles and he has an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience of all sorts of bikes.

His advice and service on my bike was great and if anyone else in Norwich is looking for a place to take their bike for a service / maintenance etc. then I'd definitely recommend this place.

I'm not sure whether or not he's got a website up and running yet but the address is:-

11 Stafford St, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 3BA

Hope that this can help someone like me who was looking for somewhere to get their bike serviced because the help that I got was first class and I couldn't fault it.

Also my apologies if the better home for my post is really the "Bicycle Maintenance, Mechanics and Repairs" thread. However I wanted to reply off the back of the previous post which was in the "Bike Discussions and Buying Advice" section and I had no clue as to how it might be possible to move it.

Sorry!
