Is this chunk missing normal or is the frame broken?

Hi guys

So I have a Giant Defy 1 2013, and where the front mech is there seems to be a chunk out of the frame missing, is this normal?

It's normal, allows clearance for front mech.

I could be wrong but looks like it is shaped so the front mech can operate correctly without hitting the frame.

Nothing missing but the seat tube is shaped ( looks like a big dent!) to allow clearance for the front mech.

I did think it was shaped for the front mech, but just wanted to make sure. Not a wind up, just a bit of a nooby question.

It's a recess in the frame to allow space for the derailleur mech, mine is the same (Giant Defy)

Mine is the same too, same year and model as yours.
