hey all.

quick question as i have noticed an odd shift in my stats.
my average speeds has increased (well chuffed) but my top speed when i go for it has fallen.
i am putting tho down to getting wiser e.g constant speed over distance is equal or greater than a sprint for a short distance.

or is this just a natural thing?

I used to be able to sprint to 30mph in fifteen seconds but SUCKED at long rides. Now I can do 100 miles at a passable speed without death occurring. Horses for courses I guess, but I know which feels like more of an achievement.

If you have had a marked weight loss you may be getting quicker on the flats/ up hills which will pull up your average but less weight on the downhill so now over to you to make that up with raw power.
(I made this all up in a logical kind of way and is based on not a lot)

im 69kg 6 ft and my bike weighs 9.95kg. i smoke around 20/30 cigarettes a day and eat mostly the right foods. i cover over 100 miles a week at speeds of 17-20mph if that helps lol 30mph is no problem its the big 50 that I'm wanting to hit admittedly on a hill lol

months ago hitting over 40/45 wasn't a problem but I'm finding that i just can't push hard enough these days

Quit the fags. Can only help. Putting pressure on lungs you are damaging that badly each day is only going to lead to issues. Not saying it wil be easy, but lungs are pretty important for aerobic activity. To reach 50mph you will need a hell of a road.

Quit smoking ASAP, reap the health benefits and you can spend the enormous amount of money saved on a new lighter bike ;)
