I just brought a Brompton from eBay. For some reason as I dropped off to sleep last night the thought occurred to me that I could carry the Brompton in my inflatable canoe on a river, then carry the canoe (folds up as a backpack) on the road. Some careful route planning could give an interesting combination of cycling and paddling.

It stuck with me through the night. Thoughts? Is that the oddest combination?

Where does the paddle go when you are cycling.? You could be on to a new sport here.

Read a blog post about someone who did something like that across all the Shetland Isles.
Can't find the blog post, but found a video ...

It's a great idea and something that has crossed my mind from time to time. It would enable you to travel independently on land and water without the need to rely on somebody else to get you to or from your stat or finish point.

The paddle splits apart into two pieces and I think it will be fine with judicious use of velcro straps to keep it in place.

More concerning would be the weight of the canoe backpack, but it's manageable.

Hmm... Wet shorts...

You need a very lightweight trailer to tow it on.
