 I put the following saddle on my Giant Defy 1

I thought it would be really comfy and much better than the original Giant saddle that came with the bike....but after some 6 weeks of riding with it (20miles per day) it is causing me great pain and an ache in the b***s I presume this is the totally wrong type of saddle for a drop handle bike....what could you suggest as a better alternative for me to look at and try out?

Its not the wrong sort of saddle for everyone, just for you. i tried a saddle with a cut out and within fine minutes couldn't sit on it without being in intense pain.

I like Fizik Saddles, they work well for me. The Arione is a comfy saddle imo, but it may not be right for you

Try a proper saddle:-

I put one of these on my old MTB, very happy with it. Probably a bit big for a road bike though?

As work in central Bristol I called in Evans last week and had a look at the specialized gel toupe...using the simple measuring tool!! ie sit your bum on this and taking the measurement between the 2 points I was a 143mm...looking that the Fizik Arione it's width is 130.....will this matter? or is the best advice as always to test ride

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I have given up the search for a saddle that is comfy, cant afford to keep buying ones and no LBS here do a loaner.

And none have a butt width gauge either

I put the same saddle on my MTB, and yeah, it's not comfy. It's too padded, so the weirdo shape no longer offers any advantage.

If it helps, I have a more expensive version of one of the SMP saddles on my road bike (one of these: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=33641) which has virtually no padding at all and which is actually extremely comfortable. It's the only saddle I've ever had that didn't leave me with blistered nethers after 20 miles (because it's the only saddle I've ever had with a massively dropped nose, the bit that has always caused problems for me in the past)

See if you can borrow a non-padded version to try.
