Biggest inner chainrings I've seen are 46t, a tightest cassette would be 12-21 with a 23-622 tyre that gives us a bottom gear of 57" or there abouts. On a flat TT stage you might see a single 56t chainring & a 11-25 cassette which gives you 58", even a 56/21 combo gives you 72" which is a reasonable size gear on a fixed.

Thank god for that. I didn't think it possibly could be true that they climbed on gears that high, but then, some of the TDF riders are a bit wrong. (can be read superhuman)
