The ERS (European Respiratory Society) is anti e-cigarettes...these are the doctors who specialise in treating smoking related illness (lung cancer, COPD etc) day in day...simply because there is no long-term evidence (remember no one though cigarettes were harmful for several hundred years) and early trials suggest potential risks

http://www.pharmatimes.com/Article/14-09-08/Respiratory_specialists_say_no_to_e-cigarettes.aspx

The American Thoracic Society has a very similar stance, e.g. http://www.thoracic.org/about/ats-p...-strengthen-argument-against-e-cigarettes.php

They might be a useful aid to quitting in the short term, but that doesn't mean they are a good thing.

Yes, probably cars should be banned from having their engines idling in school car parks and anywhere else there may be people present

Same as what's in the nicotine ones, less the nicotine!; Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine and food flavourings.

Some people wean themselves off nicotine by using lower strength e-liquids until they are nic free. Giving up the nic is only half the battle for smokers though IMO. When I gave up using the NHS approved method the thing I missed most was the habit, the physical action. It's why I think I succumbed to it again.

I currently vape using nicotine free liquids for that very reason :okay:

I'm always amused at how some activities become stigmatised in people's eyes, usually due to uninformed hysteria in the media.

If the driver had been drinking a can of full-fat fizzy drink contaning high levels of sugar, would you have felt equally compelled to give him your thoughts on the matter?
Are you talking to me?

I have never smoked or vaped but like others i would regard it as an activity not to be done in front of kids and the above website confirms my thoughts .As according to my emergency life savers course your body only absorbs 4 % of the oxygen you breathe in i would assume you dont absorb all the stuff in the e cig so although your not emitting as much as a traditional smoker there are still emissions .

i was in primary school when i bought my first pack of ten.

Yep - probably should only be available on prescription..........
Some of the medics would like them to be subject to the same stringent safety and efficacy trials as new pharmaceutical drugs

Both of you would probably benefit from reading some of the studies done by Dr Farsalinos. He is very objective, encouraging people to vape rather than smoke, because he knows it will save lives. He knows this because the tests he does measure the toxicity of vaping products as they would be used in the real world as opposed to most of the studies being done today by those looking for a reason to regulate, tax or ban the products.

The real problem vapers have is public perception of the product. This is mainly driven by big tobacco and big pharma and the billions they stand to lose if vaping continues to be a huge success in getting people to stop smoking. The research being done, and paid for by them is poor, but it makes for great headlines so the media lap it up.

The stuff you have linked to @vickster is just about typical of the whole attitude toward vaping. The WHO commissioned a study by a group of scientists, and the results of the study gave them reason to issue their edict and therefore recommend the control of vaping products. The Americans, who have most of the big tobacco companies lobbying and paying billions in tax, are leading the way in demonising the products.

The problem is is that any study is always led by the question they want answered, and the question the WHO asked was loaded. I won't bore you with the detail, you can find out easily if you are that interested, but they basically asked the scientists to find something toxic in e-cigarettes and that is exactly what they did. They didn't test the products as they would be used by anyone, they basically tested them to destruction and then measured the results.

Legality? It isn't illegal.

2 things -
It isn't smoke, so therefore isn't smoking, so there is no secondary smoking.
Shall we also ban cars in school car parks and the surrounding streets because we DO know that the fumes from cars are bad for kids health? You don't ban stuff because you don't know. Unless you are a Daily Mail reader.
It releases a fog of who-knows-what, including nicotine, which we know is addictive.
If people want to indulge, I reckon its up to them to show it's safe, rather than for non-participants to show it isn't.
Or is it the self entitlement that smokers always had, only now it's 'not smoking' so that's OK?

Some prick walked past me the other day and blew some "vape" in my face, so I called him a prick. He asked me what I had said so I repeated my comment. He them told me it was not illegal to "vape" in public. I highlighted that had I wanted to say "that's illegal" I would have said so, and that my statement stood - his mates laughed their cocks off at him being owned by an old nobber.
