My commute is long distance, Northampton to Chancery Lane, and mixed mode car/train/bike. The brommie is unbeatable for the Euston to Office bit, can be as quick as 9 minutes. Difficult to get under 25mins by any other viable mode be it bus, tube, taxi or shanks's pony.

5-10min walk to (small) bus station: buses every 10mins - 25min journey.

Whereas if I ride it - takes maximum of 20mins: I used to floor it on the way in but if I do ride it now, I dont go as fast, so I don't sweat up as much.

I could prob. do the the route the bus does in 20'.

I would have to either

Walk or bus to Walthamstow Central
or bus to Leyton Tube,

Walthamstow Central to Liverpool Street then Walk to Bank for Waterloo and City Line (if it is open) or London Bridge for Waterloo.

Or Leyton Tube to Bank (Waterloo and City Line) or via Oxford Circus to Waterloo.Yuck.

Or Walthamstow Central to Vauxhall.Vauxhall to Waterloo.

Bus from here to Walthamstow Central varies and a walk is 15 minutes.

Last time I went to work by public transport (3+ years ago) it took 2 hrs 35 mins , I cycle it in 1hr 10 - 1 hr 30 depending on the weather........

It takes 1h:30m on bike about an 1h:10 by bus with the detours and stops as its not direct, that includes a 20-30min walk as my place of work is way off the bus route. Also bus times are not shift friendly and there isn't a train option. To be honest I prefer the solitude of the bike as i can switch off from the stress of work and concentrate on something else.

Dam! Missed! pressed the wrong button! sorry lads. I should have pressed the slower button.

Me too - I thought it was saying my commute was faster..... I go to various different sites across the city, but the office is central - it would take me half an hour by bus (even though its only 5 mins at one end and 1 min at the other end), whereas the bike takes 15 mins.

Anywhere else would take a change of bus and therefore longer.

I have a bus stop at the end of my street.
this takes me to within 20 metres of the front door of my work by pretty much the same route I take onthe bike.

I am 3 or 4 minutes faster if i take the direct route.
Takes me 11 minues, takes the bus 15.

of course then you have to leave time to get changed at work, but it's a good sacrifice as our bus service is full of idiots.

Hello All,
Mine is a lot faster by bike and as a general rule faster by bike than a car.I would have a five minute walk to the bus stop 10 min trip into town then a 15 to 20 minute walk to work as the bus would drop me of 1/2 the distance away (ish) than I am from work in the first place. The bike costs almost nothing (was given to me) the bus would cost £3 a day. I can do the trip on my bike in 10 to 12 mins there and 15mins back.

What's public transport. A bus passes through my village a couple of times a month I think. Not quite suitable for relying on to commute.

25 minutes faster by bike.
By public transport it was either bike or walk to station (1.3 miles) then 2 trains, then a DLR train.

My commute is about 1 hour by bus (regular service every 10 mins and 1 bus change) - less than 25 mins if I take the 7.5 mile route (still longer than the bus route).

A car would be about 45 mins in rush hour, 25 mins outside - e.g. lunch time. And that's South Manchester, travelling East to West, not city centre.

My commute is quicker. The bus is about 20-25minutes and will also include a 10min walk. The bike is 13-17 in and 16-25 out. Discrepancy is due to 2 bike MTB with skinnies and road bike. The changing at work makes the trip time longer, but I love the solitude and the compition with my stop watch.....

I put 'same' - although this is timed up to the moment I sit down to work, ie. after getting changed etc.

It's 8 miles across central London, used to take me 35 mins (on a good day) by tube, now takes me 30 mins by bike followed by 5 mins getting changed etc.

SE London (Zone 3) to Canary Wharf - by bike 25-30 mins, public transport (train or bus to Lewisham, then DLR) about 30-40 mins.
