I want to know where you work Snapper as your colleagues sound really generous ...

They are. It's a lot of 'thought that counts' that I hold dear as a lot of the staff do not earn that much so I feel really privilaged at the moment. Oh but they've made up for it with scoffing all my cakes.

I think I'm going to buy myself a nice Rotary watch as a keepsake. Wiggle vouchers = new shoes.

Happy Birthday! 40 is not that old!!

Wait until you get to my mum's age ... she sometimes regales me with tales of her youth (to her, "young" is anything under 60) ... and she has to stop and try to remember which decade something happened in!

On the plus side (for her at least), she's old enough to not care what she says, does or wears in public any more ...

40 is a funny one. I looked forward to turning 30 but I wasn't so happy to turn 40...

I had no issues with 40. I'd just started a new job so no-one at work knew about it and it felt like just another day.

What hit me was, 12 months later, I was suddenly "over 40". That's the only birthday which has been a downer for me. I'm 46 now and surprised to have made it this far.

If you didn't post it to get a Happy Birthday thread, then prepare to be disappointed.

I only got 2 cards on my birthday this year - worst score ever: wife and daughter remembered. My son thought it didn't matter, my aging father didn't send me one, my sister-in-law (normally ultra-reliable) sent me one 3 weeks late, and my work colleagues didn't know because we don't 'do' birthdays.

Have come home tonight to all the house being done out with balloons/banners. Even Ellie had a 40th balloon attached to her collar.

I'm happy. I may nearly be bloody 40 but I'm happy.

I was born at 10.50 a.m. 3.3.70 and my Dad got bored the evening before during the labour and went to the pub. Men eh.
