I'd have no issue with having an additional bank holiday for England, to take us from having the second lowest number of them in the world, to being on a Saturday.

An awful lot of jobs compared to decades ago treat Saturdays as a normal working day and Sundays are steadily heading in the same direction.

This would give those Saturday workers the day off without using annual leave, possibly giving them a 2+ day weekend break, or even more if they work selected days part time.

Don't work Saturday? You get an extra day added to your annual leave.

You'd be surprised at how low key the '66 World Cup win was regarded compared to what the same thing would be today. Apart from the next day (Sunday) the press confined all reporting of the game to the back pages, and that included the build up on the day itself.

By Monday it had almost disappeared from the news.

Apparently, at full time my dad leapt up with a shout, stumbled and fell over the back of the settee, with an almighty crash, mum wasn't too impressed as she'd just got yours truly off to sleep in my pram !
