They've brought about a significant reduction in road casualties and insurance claims in Wales. That's got to be good for us two wheeled road users.
Can you do more than 20mph in London?!😂
I wish all of London just went to 20mph.
What annoys me is the total inconsistency in speed limits.
The south circular has various speed limits from 50, 40, 39 and 20. Often with no clear signage or seemingly any reason why it changes.
I now just assume a road is a 20 mph unless I can be certain it isn’t.
Crieff is now mostly 20mph but I can count on one hand how many drivers I’ve seen complying. No cameras or police presence to enforce it either so just a token gesture.
No, it reduces speed and accidents.
Not to the speed limit, but lower than before.
Which is excellent, and by no means token.
An average of 1.2 mph reduction across the Oxfordshire 20 mph zones as measured pre and post implementation. (I did an FOI request)
They're not enforced, but OCC hopes that it will have an incremental effect to reduce speed through societal pressure.
Yes, a small bit meaningful (look at the injury vs speed relationship) reduction overall, and the highest speeds are reduced by more.
And accompanying reduction in accidents.
They were unable to provide those statistics.
Such statistics are widely available for implemented schemes. Notably but by no means solely, Wales.
I was explaining that it was part of my FOI request and I was told the data wasn't available from OCC.
