Where's the option for "I'm not an old fart and didn't abuse myself as much as you onanists in my youth so am yet to need them?"

Or maybe it's there and I can't see it??
I think you're looking for the monocle option, aren't you?

Had my eyes lazered in my late 30s and then had a golden era of 20-20 vision (having been basically myopic since about 9). It lasted about five or six years before the close vision started to go, and I've had reading lasses ever since. Still have 20-20 for distance tho', which is great.

I also had mine lasered in my 30s and it was the best thing I've done. 14 years later and I still have 20/20 for distance. The lasering process apparently has a negative impact on long sightedness and after the procedure I certainly couldn't focus on objects quite as closely as I could previously. However, I'm still OK without reading glasses but I can't manage some really small print (like my hard copy London pocket A to Z which I've given up on)

Mid-40s. Somebody at work asked me to modify some prototype circuit boards. I was supposed to desolder a pin on a surface-mounted chip on each board, bend it up and attach a wire to it from some bodged add-on circuitry. It was a major blow to realise that I could no longer see the individual pins close up. All I could see was a black square with silver metal things round the outside. If I held the board far enough away to focus on it then everything looked too small to work with.

I can still function pretty well without reading glasses in good light, but need them in poor light or for very small print.

TBH, I am more worried about my poor memory. I found an old diary and a mention of a mountain bike ride from Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. I thought that I had never been there! It is something that I should remember because it is the only mountain bike ride that I have ever done in that area. (I THINK!)

I got mine a few months ago (41). I keep telling myself that they are computer glasses and not reading glasses. I only use them at work when i am on the PC all day, I don't bother the rest of the time as they are low power +.5 and +.25. They just stop me getting tired eyes.

I too had my eyes lasered about 15 years ago - it was amazing, I went to perfect vision from -4.5 and could all of a sudden go sailing and play rugby without the risk of losing a contact lens.

Don't the lasses mind reading to you?

I had a retinal bleed when I was 42, and since then I've needed glasses.
One of my eyes was bang-on, the other had heavy astigmatism, so you tell me which one got wrecked.
It's a real pain going from not needed glasses at all, to needing them for everything, and having to change the dominant eye, all within a few days.
Still gives me headaches from time to time now...
