It has to be the dancing dog doesn't it?

May I say that the
For the purposes of entertaining her Madge at the Royal variety show the best act won, singers, dancing troops etc etc are 2 a penny.

Unfortunately the talented part of the duo is the dog and is already middle aged and as no use for cash. I would imagine the cash will cause major ruptions in the family along the lines of, who bought the dog,who pays to feed the dog etc etc. imho it is a stupid amount of money to have as a prize.

I would imagine at least 2 of the acts from last night will end up on Cowells books and will release cd's in the very near future.

If press reports are to be believed most of these shows have them on Cowell's books from the start and he will collect payment no matter how far they go through the system.

There were reports of one failed contestant who is now singing in pubs and still having to pay part of that meagre income to Cowell

This is an interesting article on how even the winners lose out on these shows. While Cowell cynically rakes in the profit.

I've never seen a better reason for you lot to get rid of your telly.

Who in their right minds actually rings up to fund Cowell's empire- that's what really boggles me!!

At last someone else other than me says the same thing.

Cowel is one of the most powerful men in tv, for what??????

Ok the dog act was good, and good luck to the girl, but as a tv show its utter tripe, mind numbing crap for the masses, who lap it up, phone to vote and make Cowel and co another few million.

True R, difficult to make judgements when we've neither of us seen it properly but after you've seen a dog repeat what it has been taught to do once how entertaining would it be to see it 3, 4, 5 times? Whereas...

I think you'll find that they had several routines for the dog to learn so it wasn't just simply repeating the same thing very time. Also, have you ever actually tried to train a dog? I will wager that there was a damn sight more effort put into those acts than just someone getting up and singing.

Any monkey can dance, but you try getting a dog to do it....

I must admit that I do feel a bit sorry for the humans who were beaten by a dog, but hey, if they are really any good then, after getting national exposure on the telly, they wont have much to worry about.

It presumably repeats a small variety of actions in response to specific commands or hand gestures strung together to form an 'act' by the owner?

To a point, yes, but the dog will still need to learn what it is to do, you couldn't get it to do something straight off without it being decidedly ruff (geddit?) round the edges.
The point is though, despite what you and I think of the average Britain's Got Talent viewer/contestant, a dog has limited intelligence, so to pull something like that off really DOES require a lot more work.

That's true, the girl's clearly got fantastic dog training abilities- be great if she could spend her working life doing what she loves.

I've changed my mind about it- there's a lot of good can come out of her winning that money... good luck to her. Thanks MDB.

Hang on.
The other night one of the semis had a Colombian singer, a couple of Scandinavian magicians, a German (?) burlesque artist and a Latvian comedian. And it's called Britain's Got Talent?
