According to my friends there, it's nearly -30c in Oulu (further north), from what my friends there have just told me.

I wouldn't even do that here!!!

Typical of my experience in Finland. I would be all wrapped up in a big thick jacket, scarf, gloves and hat in the snow and have a Finn walking alongside me in shirtsleeves and sandals.

I have two really good Finnish mates who work here at NATO and they both stay well away from Finland at Christmas - one is from well within the arctic circle, one from Tornio, which is about on it. Both of them have houses in the Balearics!

Finnair operate their big inter-continental jets to/from Finland to the Balearics and the Canaries during the winter because so many people want to get away from there at this time.

It's damn cold here today and we were having wintry showers this afternoon. Most of the people I saw were wearing sensible winter clothing, but I saw one young man wandering around in shorts and a tee-shirt looking completely unfazed by it and pretty comfortable!
