I have been to Baku, Azerbaijan on numerous ocassions and really enjoy the place and planning a return next year. Also on the cards are visits to Moscow and Aktau, Kazakhstan.

I had an opportunity to work in Aktau several years ago however convincing Mrs 4F at the time that this was a good idea was met with determined resistance. hohum

Sound like some really interesting places, there was a family en-route to Baku on my Moscow flight, a 2 week holiday with their uncle who was working with UNICEF, sounded fascinating. Unfortunately I'm unlikely to see any more than Kaliningrad and I've had an invite to Moscow which I may get to take-up over the next 12 months.
Travelling's always interesting for me, it's rarely as glamorous as it sounds, but there is always wonderful people to meet and occasionally amazing places to see. If there's one thing I've learned after 20 years is that there are all kinds of way to live and be happy.

No, you'd take 2 hrs max to Gdansk, then the 3 hour bus trip. I never said you wouldn't win . But sitting on a plane vs sitting on a bus on Russian roads, plus border controls etc, the plane seems the sleepy comfy option. There's a sleeper train from Berlin... ;)

Eh? You have to change planes and mess about with an extra airport, so hardly a comfy option. I'm not making an environmental argument, I just don't understand why you'd choose the route you do.

That aside, Kaliningrad does sound very interesting. If you've not spent any time in Gdansk, it's well worth a look round.
