After watching the docufilm about Andre the Giant (very good BTW) I think it's quite possible that some sort of Ape can grow to ~50% bigger than average. The largest (eastern lowland Gorilla) stood 6 foot 6 tall, so something in the order of 7 - 8 feet is not incomprehensible.

However, Drago's link shows a thing that seems to have the stance of a human (dressed up as Chewbacca).
