Its dark, its wet, its raining and its on an island - the worst place for a cyclist to be.

It's dark, it's wet and it's raining.

I have my right arm out whilst I go round the island and then my left arm as I intend to take the exit. My gloves have reflective on and are also white.

I am also lit up like a christmas tree. I have a exposure diablo on constant on the bars and a explose joystick on flash on my helmet. I also have a flare orange light on the frame. I have reflective on many parts of my bike frame and forks and also a significant amount of reflective on my clothing and also my rucksac.

So either this motorist did not see me or he did and thought he would try to beat me.

A nobber but not very close nobber.

Yes, I was fully in control. I am now very, very cautious on islands as it was on an mini island that i got knocked off my bike. I do feel that islands are one of the most unsafe places for a cyclist to be.

Is there a point to this thread?

Because he would not of tried that if I was a car, van or HGV. No risk of injury to him by pulling out on me. Maybe if it was a new cyclist, the cyclist might have panicked and ended up falling to the road.
All it shows is how inconsiderate motorists can be to cyclists.

I see the same manouvers when I am driving.

If every cycle cammer posted up similar experiences as the vid we'd need a separate subforum.

Yep, get these frequently.
Most see you and are either clueless on how fast a bike can go or jus want to beat you out as they have little todgers.
There is another group who just simply do not see you though, they are the more dangerous ones.
Thankfully I assume every one of them is going to pull out on me - safer that way.

Well, slightly off on a tangent, did anyone see the BBC Breakfast report about the new ratings for tyres on cars? Mostly the cheaper tyres can add several extra metres on to your stopping distance, especially in the wet, so if you knowingly buy these for your car and kill or hurt someone trying to stop....is that automatically your fault?
Why are they even sold? How long til its an extra in a compensation claim? How long til they are illegal?

Selfish of him / her, but thankfully not too close. I had someone pull out on me in the wet yesterday (thread elsewhere) and I barely managed to stay upright trying to swerve out the way.

I do see this type of manouvers many times, but felt that I should put the video up because of the bad road conditions.
