I guess this is no massive deal, but I was at work yesterday morning and went to get some tools out of my truck. Holding on to a lamp post just by the truck was a guy in full cycling gear, sitting atop a nice BMC. I just said "great morning for a bike ride" and that was it, we were chatting away merrily. He was waiting for his cycling buddy to turn up so they could go off on their ride. Turned out he was a professional cycle mechanic who had previously worked with pro teams and had worked on Grand Tours. When I said I had recently ridden Mont Ventoux, he remarked "been up there a few times, mostly in the back of a team car". Turned out to be a really interesting guy to talk to, and luckily his riding buddy was about 30 minutes late.

Seemed like a top bloke, and I'll be giving him a shout next time I need a wheel truing or if I have a mechanical I can't fix myself.

I got talking to an old guy on my way to work today, we were both waiting for the lights to change at a pedestrian crossing
He turned out to be a very spritely 73 year old, ex pro cyclist who lived on the continent for 7 years plying his trade.
He also had the good fortune to win a couple of grand or so on the Irish lottery recently, which he promptly spent on a nice new shiney Willier would have liked to chat with him further, but had to get a move on for work. Didn't get his name, but I shall keep an eye out for him in future.
