This is very true, also very obvious. Most of the Christmas traditions have little to do with Jesus and everything to do with a midwinter festival. I get increasingly saddened by the introduction of ever more newly dreamt up "Christmas traditions" that are clearly nothing more than a cynical attempt to extract money.
Lots of my Facebook friends are now posting links to sites where you can buy a personalised box filled with gifts for your children to open up on Christmas Eve - what's wrong with leaving a carrot and a mince pie on the hearth? That's what you're meant to do on Christmas Eve.
