That's it then. 1st December, heating put on this morning...only set it to 17 degrees mind, let's not go mad eh.

I just looked at the thermostat, the heatings on, but not on on .

Still 17 degrees, which for the most part is ok, occasionally feel a little chill perhaps when in my dressing gown etc...and this morning getting out the shower was 'interesting'
Dressed now, feel absolutely fine. I just couldn't conceive having it up at 20 or higher, particually at night.

If you're not at the temperature you want to be at, and you can afford it, put it on. For me, there is no "pleasure" in being cold in the house, sitting around with sweaters and thick socks on

If you're cold whilst wearing sweaters and thick socks, I don't think putting the heating on will help.

I don't get the stripping off so you can stand having the heating turned up approach! If you don't wear sweaters and thick socks in the winter, when would you wear them!

I've got my central heating on but turned low so it takes the chill off the house but I use body heat to do the rest with the help of my trusty lumberjack shirt, thick slipper socks and a buff to keep my balding head warm. I am perfectly comfortable, room temperature about 18 degrees.

I was using my turbo trainer the other day and got unbearably hot. I had to strip down to just shorts and blast myself with a powerful fan. If I turned the heating up any more then I'd be sweating doing anything other than just sitting around.

Neither do I. But there's a happy medium. If I need to wander around in shorts, it's too hot (Mrs N is usually the reason for this). But equally, if I need to wear a sweater and thick socks in the house, it's too cold.

Currently in a thin, long sleeved top and regular thin socks with my slippers. Which feels about right to me. Of course, I appreciate that I am fortunate enough to be able to heat my home to this extent. Not everyone is

It is true that winter heating bills are a concern for me, but I usually feel too warm in other people's houses in the winter.

I discussed it with my sister and brother-in-law once when I noticed that they had their house heated to 22-23 degrees one winter. I pointed out to them that they had been perfectly comfortable in their unheated house in the summer when it was only showing 19 degrees on their thermometer.

I just had to turn my heating down. I don't have individual room thermostats and had set the boiler water temperature when it was 0 degrees outside. It is currently 4.1 outdoors so the indoor temperature was creeping up out of my comfort zone. It was 19.5 degrees and rising. It has now gone back down to a more comfortable 18.5 and I will try to keep it at that.

As an aside ... I am living in a rental property with radiators on the first floor landing and in every room except for one - the bathroom! Which idiot thought that the one room where you get naked and wet should be left unheated? My landlady had a heated towel rail installed for me when I moved in and complained about it. (She hadn't noticed the missing radiator when she bought the house.) It is enough to take the chill off the room and make winter showers comfortable.

While 17 / 18 degrees seems apparently too low for some, for us it's fine if occasionally a tiny bit chilly. As said earlier, i came from a background where ice on the inside of the windows was a norm in winter. But, too warm in a house and I feel stodgy, lethargic, uncomfortable...not sure how to describe it.
Factor in I hate the cold, real cold with a vengeance so going from say 25 degrees to outside will seem much worse.

Then, we're often out the house most of the day so it's a waste to just bang on the heating all day and pointless putting it on for an hour or so to then have to open windows at night ...which we do at almost any opportunity. Can't stand a stuffy house.
The irony is, summertime, outside, the hotter the better.

Brrrrr, woke up this morning to...14 degrees. Not teeth chatteringly cold but it was jus too much with a bone cold morning after walking the dog.
As above, the windows are at best left ajar at night so there's no point I leaving the heating on. That prompted us to put the heating on all day, even though we were out. Lovely to come back to a warm house. Shame it'll all have to go out the windows soon, I won't sleep tonight if it stays this warm (20 degrees)
