Must get me to this week's farmers' market.

I'm not though I will be later today as I have several folk calling in to collect pies as part of my calorie controlled diet.

The saving grace is that I drive past a good pie shop on my way to work and could call in to replenish stock like I did three times last week admittedly the pies were to share with favoured colleagues.

Vernon, I know you are something of a pie afficionado (I too like a pie, but fear I am not in your league) but can I canvas your expert opinion on the London-esque pie, mash and liquor? (I am a fan, but then I'll also eat jellied eels)

I have yet to conduct field trials of pie and mash and it is on my agenda - this summer is a possibility. The historical aspect of pie and mash shops does have a certain appeal.

Also on my list of things to taste is the range of products of Mr Fitzpatricks- the last temperence bar in the UK.

I'm also a fan of Fentiman's botanically brewed drinks

I love the meat pies you get in Greenhalgh's. There always served hot, we don't get them here in York, luck to get a hot pasty in the mornings if your lucky.

You do live pretty close to the best pie in York though - a Knavesmire Butchers Steak Pie.

I miss them, now we don't do the South Bank round....

Right you lot, that's it, I'm off out for a pie! When I'm older and have hideous circulatory and cholesterol problems the blame will lie squarely at your doors, it will have nothing to do with my lack of willpower

They are OK, but do not match the Greenhalgh's meat pie's. You need to try them the next time your across the Pennies.

Greenhalgh's pies are acceptable when there's no Yorkshire manufactured alternatives available.

Their major problem is that they are bakers and not butchers. The presentation is fine, the crust flaccid and the filling a few steps up from OK.

They are only just upmarket from a Pukka pie.

Yes, but remember those posters in the chip shop? Pukka pies are so... sophisticated. Couples eat them wearing evening dress and everything!

Oi! Did you not not know its against forum rules* to start a pie thread and get to page 2 without me?

May I remind everyone that as good as a pie filled with some sort of animal is, we are now in a season that is producing a bountiful harvest of fruit to lovingly cover with a crust. I have just been given some rhubarb for encasing.

I must confess to being much better at eating them than making them though.
