Still in shorts here but long sleeved top and gloves with fingers in, I use a cheap weather station thing off
Ebay to tell me what the outside temp is, not foolproof but useful, above 12 c I can do short sleeves shorts and fingerless gloves, 10 c suggests I might like long sleeves and full gloves, fine down to about 4c and then its thick gloves and layers.
Did my first full winter and it was fine, I made sure my gear was in the house and warm rather than with the bike in the garage, when its really cold its nice to go out a bit too warm and relish the cold air, rather than putting cold gear on and trying to warm up.
And if its icy, i.e. properly icy, not dry cold, forget it is my advice, better to miss a day than to injure yourself and potentially miss months due to broken bones.
