They tend to die, or at least the one I had did. They buried the pots, which are smaller than the root ball would be and then dig them up and cut off the roots. Mine lasted long enough to miss the January tree collections, but not much longer, so it sat dead in my garden for 10 months.As it's pot grown, perhaps you could just move it to a larger pot, then plant it in the yard after the Holidays. They appear to have intact root balls, AICBM.

I visited B&Q on Christmas Eve a few years ago. They were selling off every tree for 1p. They were selling £50 trees for 1p. the manager just wanted them off his forecourt.I then purchased a proper small fir in a pot out of season, and it's growing nicely, thankyou.
