First ever *you know what* on a Marathon Plus tyre. Unfortunately it was the new one, only a few weeks old! I'll take some of the blame, because it was approaching the 'must pump tyres up' time. I had a perfect triangle of glass that went into the tyre exactly point first and just got through the guard. Shame it was 0700 hrs, about -4 deg and 2 miles from home.

I was right to make the conscious decision to not carry a spare tube/repair kit. Talk about a dick dance changing the rear wheel on a single speed with mudguards ........ not a roadside job in dark. Just shut up and walk.

It aint nice fixing a flat by the roadside in the cold. I got caught out around last christmas time when I was using gatorskins, near the Kingsbury Water Park, about twenty miles from home, temperature down to -5 with freezing fog and someone had been cutting hedges on one of the lanes. I spent half an hour by the roadside picking thorns out of my back tyre and changing the tube.
