I have just gone and bought my first road bike...it's a Triban 5 road bike from Decathlon.....and after looking around I decided for the price (£499) and spec it couldn't really be beaten. It has Tiagra shifters and triple chainset with Sora derailleurs - carbon/alu frame.

Now I just have to master clipless pedals, so I don't think I will use it on my commute until I feel confident and the weather improves!

In the meantime I shall have to get the train until the insurance company pay out or replace my hybrid that got nicked last week, hopefully that won't take too long.

Sounds a bargain. PS they are covered by a 2 year parts and 5 year frame warranty - bullet proof. So keep the receipt, or if you've got the membership card - it will be on there.

Sounds a bargain with with Tiagra shifters (most expensive part).

Can't fault Decathlon, but you might want to pay close attention to the tyres-I haven't got experience of the road tyres but the standard tyres on their low end mountain bikes are poor.
