My attack of shingles proved to be a mild one thankfully. I had three days of intense misery with pain and best part of a week of being laid low with flu like symptoms.

I now just have a tingling chest and a hypersensitive left nipple to contend with. It could have been a lot worse - other CCers' anecdotes and online shingles web sites had me terrified about the degree of pain and discomfort that i could have suffered.

That is good news, Vernon.
I've only had shingles once but really don't want to do that again.

That's good news, Vernon - I'm pleased....I've had shingles as well and it can be nasty.

So there's no excuse....get out on that new bike!!

Got a 100km audax booked for this weekend. That will be the third 100km done on the bike and my sixth since the start of February.

I might have to tape my nipple over though.....

I was fully anticipating protracted agony - just like the pain I had when I had chronic cellulitis.

I'm counting on the statistics being in my favour i.e. unlikely to get a second dose.

Glad you are well now Vern!

Don't want to spoil the party but are you sure its over and not just starting? When I had shingles it was preceded by the tingling and then a short while later the blisters appeared which was the painful stage that went on for some months.

Unfortunately if you have the virus in your nerve endings it may be dormant but it is still there and you are still vulnerable to recurrences although its 20 years now since my single episode.

I've had the tingling then the blisters then the pain then the scabs. Currently scabs are dropping off but tingling is persisting. Fekt really ill for most of last week. On my feet and back at work this week albeit a little more tired than normal. It was self diagnosed and then confirmed by my GP. Has been treated and is definitely on the way out.

The stats are in my favour when it comes to the likelihood of a second dose.

I think it was a mild dose of PWS, Vernon. Pie withdrawal syndrome can attack at any time. Sometimes the case can be a cute one...sometimes gravy.

I did succumb to a Morrison's steak and kidney pie last Friday but didn't connect its consumption with my recovery overnight which made a trip to Birmingham possible on the Saturday.

I would like to research the medicinal effects of pie consumption further but I'm unwilling to deliberately infect myself with various lurgies to test the hypothesis: 'A pie a day keeps the lurgy at bay'
