My neighbour who spends half her life on her phone told me this evening that from her experience of phone chargers, Samsung ones are best for Samsung phones with Tesco ones coming a close second. She said she's bought those 4 quid fleabay ones in the past and they only lasted about a year or so before although still charging her phone(s) the charging became 'painfully slow'!!

Oh Look! They don't supply chargers and earphones now because quote.....

Samsung smartphones come with a USB Type-C data cable, but they do not come with earphones or a charger plug in the box because we want to minimise the impact our products have on the environment.
https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/...-charger-plug-in-the-box/#:~:text=Close-,Why%

So the customer then has to buy their own earphones and charger, wiping out the supposed Samsung minimised impact on the environment!!!

Very few people nowadays will not have multiple chargers around the house. So no, they do not "wipe out the minimised impact on the environment".

And most phones now don't even have headphone jacks, while again, those who actually use wired headphones and have managfed to find a phone model which does, will almost certainly already have several pairs.

The A16 lead didn't fit the charger that came with the A10 phone, going on for 6 years ago. The phone geek said I had so much data on my old phone, so the 'SmartSwitch' App wouldn't work. He said I'd need to delete many videos and photos for it to work properly. I didn't have the time or patience, so I left him to it.

But all you needd was a new lead, not a new charger.

the old charger would have been a USB-A outlet, while the cable that came with your new phone will have been USB-C to USB-C. It is easy to get USB-A to USB-C leads, and cheaper than a new charger.

Ah well, at least I now have a new, not going on for 6 years old charger that's been used thousands of times. I'll keep the old one in case the new one might cock up somewhere along the line. I don't need the old one for my old phone should I need to use it, as the old phone's cable fits in the new charger as well as the new phones cable. However, I am slightly annoyed as I did ask the Tesco shop assistant if they had such as this https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/325375556?sc_cmp=ppc*GHS+-+Grocery+-+New*MPX_PMAX_All_OT_Marketplace+Electronics+ He told me they didn't and maybe they genuinely didn't as the Tesco I use only has a limited phones, computers section. Meaning I would've had to wait at least another day to either drive to a bigger Tesco 4 miles away, or order one online costing me £2.99 for delivery.

£103 from Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Ga.../dp/B0DPHC4RQW/ref=asc_df_B0DPHC4RQW?mcid=48d
I know zilch about phones, so does that mean you buy the phone then have to sort out an internet provider etc? I didn't buy mine. I've had a monthly contract with whoever Carphone Warehouse as it was then, set up for me when I got the A10 on contract from them in September 2019. My monthly payment has gone up now by about another fiver a month. The shop assistant said they had phones that could do many more things than a Samsung Galaxy A16, but for what I want one for (after telling her what I use it for) the A16 will do the job.

Basically it looks like the phone is sim free. You just get a sim card for whichever provider you want. EE, O2 etc, loads of cheap deals out there. You can get 30gb for around £10 a month.

I think you’re confusing your ISP, Internet service provider, with your network provider. Your ISP would typically provide home broadband. Your phone is handled by your network provider - two different services.

Yes, it seems to means this is phone only and you organise your own network provider and sim card. Many people choose to go down this route rather than being tied into a, probably overpriced, contract.

Only you can decide what you need. The bulk of my browsing is via WiFi, which is free virtually everywhere I go, meaning my data needs are minimal. You can check on your old phone how much data you use per month.

I use Tesco PAYG Rocket Packs as my network provider. I pay between £5 - £7.50/month which gives me all the data I need. On the odd occasion when I need more data, on holiday for example, I can buy it on monthly basis. Above all I like the simplicity and flexibility of Tesco PAYG. I can vary the monthly payment between £5 and £30/month depending on how much data I need.

I've no doubt there will plenty of other low cost offers. My phone costs are about £85 per annum. I'm happy with that.

Based on the reviews you've purchased a good entry level phone which is real value for money. That's the more important point.

That's on the Tesco website but not sold by Tesco. It's like many things on Amazon and the B&Q website, as well as their own products they provide a shop front for independent retailers.

Although that would have allowed you to use your old charger with your new phone it would have been slower than the new charger.

Many of whom have their own web site although I found a tin of paint had dearer postage from the supplier direct than ordering from them through B&Q.
Its also worth checking a phone etc manufacturers website as IME an Amazon offer is often a manufacturers offer plus Amazons mark up.

Looks like that is not the 5G version?, but, that may not be relevant to your usage plans.

Personally, I usually check the price of the Phone as part of the Network provider contract, vs buying SIM free unlocked phone and using a SIM only contract with the Network provider. In general, I have found that for more expensive phones (eg iPhone, top of range Samsung etc) it is usually significantly cheaper to go the SIM free route, for the "entry level"models, the saving is not significant, or, in some cases none existent.
