James May Man Lab - Reinventing the bicycle?

Literally just started on BBC2 now, lets see what he comes up with with his vision of 'reinventing' the bicycle as a Swiss Army Bike!

Ha! Very short little clip but his bike has:

1) Attachement for cleaning windows
2) Blade sharpener
3) Blender
4) A Drill
5) Paint sprayer

If you watch it, listen for the comedy squashed cat sound effect

It was quite innovative wasnt it, I did like the window washing attachement myself

On the clips at the start though did anyone see that strange 'Side by Side' bicycle, two people sitting either side of the top tube and peddling. Only saw it for a second or two so dont have any more to go on.

Missed the side by side one ,,, liked the knife sharpening tool ,,i remember when i was a kid we had a chap come round on a bike sharpening knives / scissors etc but not sure how his set up was , also a chap on a bike (2 wheels at the front and one at the back) with a big black box full of black peas , you would take out your bowl when you heard him ringing a hand ball ,, mmmmm still remember how good they were.

I was a bit ho hum about this when it started, I thought the bit on orienteering where him and Oz Clarke escaped from Dartmoor was just silly but I have to say I warmed to it as it went on. I enjoyed the animals in space bit last week and I thought the swiss army bike was great. It was amusing and a bit informative. Out of the three of them he comes over by far the best.

Ooh, and I thought the flashing led's in the shoes had great potential

The space animals I missed as I was watching the 'History of Canals' on BBC4, will iPlayer it.

His bike was tongue in cheek certainly but I bet most people don't even think of bikes as anything more than travel/play things. The number of people on here I've seen posting their work bikes (trailers or otherwise) means they are certainly not dead.

When we went to Australia in 2000 we visited Byron Bay, a mecca those seeking an alternative lifestyle, it was all very chilled and spaced out man . As well as the man in the red velvet dress with a tyre on his head out of which sprouted his dreadlocks (the kids eyes almost popped out of their sockets) we stumbled upon a fair which included someone making fresh fruit smoothies using and old bike to power the blender, I was impressed.

It will have been some form of 'sociable' bicycle.

Byron Bay! I visited last year (my brother used to live up the coast in Coolangatta), it was the quiet season but yes lots of chilled outness going on

I remember reading an article about them in Cycling Plus (?) years ago. There was a picture of one with some sort of rocket launcher bolted on to the top tube.
