The lock on the back door to the garage has jammed shut. I can get a jigsaw blade in the gap 'tween door and frame, does anyone know if the tongue is likely to be hardened or should it cut easily?

If it is a British made lock, or anything to British standards, you've got no chance of cutting it. If it's a bit of cheap Chinese junk.........well.........give it a try.

How does a lock jam shut? What happens when you insert the key?

One of these might be the only answer but if you do make sure this chap isn't on the end of it.

A 1mm steel cutting disk can cut pretty much anything, especially over-priced bike locks.

Locksmiths just drill out the key mechanism by aiming a (say) 8-10mm HSS drill right into the key slot. It's really fast and doesn't louse up the door or frame.
Some locks now have hardened steel plates to stop that. Notably Yale & Chubb.

@Smokin Joe, five lever lock?
Does the key stick at the same point in either direction. Are all keys for the lock in one piece.
