I am having a slight bit of trouble with sizing issues's with cycling tops. I bought a few last week and being the first time i have dipped into this market, not sure how tight etc... these should be.
Firslty, i bought a sportful jersey, size L, got it home, tried it on and was fairly tight fitting around chest and arms but not uncomfortably so, but it was too short on the front, riding up the stomach.
Took it back and bought a primal top size XL, this is slightly loose'r (Is that a word), around the chest, fits great in the lenght on the front but is baggy around the biceps.
I know these are two differn't brands which may differ slightly in size range, but what is your opinion on tops and how they should fit.

When you say too short on the front was that when you were standing in front of the mirror or when you were on your bike hands on the hoods? How it feels in the bedroom is different to how it feels on the bike (oh er).
If you're going for marginal gains and PR's you'd want something that's fitted (a racing fit) but if you're just enjoying the bike and would rather be comfortable then the casual fit is going to be better.
I would try a few more brands see if there is something part way between the two?

Sportful jerseys are cut for when you riding - so they are tight across the chest and short in the front when you are off the bike, but as soon as you are on it they fit just right.

Helston, Yes it was short when standing and i though it would be ok once in position on the bike. No records to be broken on my outings, just enjoying the ride so dont suppose it makes a big difference.
Stu, thats exactly how it was, it felt good across the chest.
May go back and get it as it was on sale.

You don't say where your tops came from but the only comment I can make is that Italian sizes are ridiculously small so you might have to go up maybe two sizes to get a good fit

The op is in the UK. Sportful Italian I think, but In women's at least don't come up that small. Have never heard of primal
