@User how about testing outside the box thinking and candidates problem solving skills by asking a mad question such as "how do you fit a giraffe in a mini?"

It could break the ice a little and avoid boring repetitive answers to the more formal "how do you approach problems?"

either slice the giraffe thinly enough... or take the mini back to the drawing board and design it for a giraffe. Did i get the job?

completly crap and lazy questions I agree, but no harm in having a stock answer ready

there's the apocryphal Cambridge interview where the don is reading the paper and says "c'mon then, impress me" so the candidate leans forward and sets light to the corner of the paper. Supposedly he got in

Decades ago I went for an interview nursing a monstrous hangover; I had a weak eye which drifted on these occasions.

The interviewer, an aggressive Scotsman, after a few minutes asked stroppily "have you got a glass eye?"

Didn't want the job anyway......
