Have you considered working for yourself? There are thousands of companies who don't have the resources to have a full-time customer services bod but are desperate to look after their customers properly. In theory you could work at home and look after customer services for maybe five or six SMEs and still only be working part-time. You'd be making a good amount of money to bike stuff and you'd have more time to ride your bike!

This is a dead serious post.

I haven't seen any adverts for things like that

Then you've found a gap in the market (or I have!). There is TONS of government help available to get into business, and if you're young enough then there's also cash grants to get you up and running.

I think outsourced customer services is a potentially magical idea, and I've give business ideas to plenty of people in the past who have gone on to do really well. I'm like a dragon with no cash to invest

I've been self-employed for my last 30 years and it isn't for everyone. And TBH I wouldn't work from home unless you have a reason to be at home (eg childcare or a very remote location) - working without contact with colleagues is very tough indeed.

It depends on your personality and the nature of the work. It would be pretty difficult to be a social worker if you were totally antisocial, whereas I would be perfectly happy to spend every working minute for the rest of my life alone at home. In fact, that is what I am trying to do ...

I prefer to keep work and socialising separate. I come on CC to 'chat', and meet people in real life for rides and walks.

Out of the last fifteen years(ish) of being 'elf-employed I'd agree with that, I do try and get out
